The new Yellow Ostrich album is so good. I’ve been listening to “Daughter” quite a bit, especially. If you have the chance to catch these guys on the road, definitely do it. The instrumentation of the songs live is so powerful. It was cool to see them play so much of the new album at SXSW this year.
Not to mention that I had the nerve to walk up to Alex Schaaf and awkwardly plead for him to play “Mary.” Huzzah!
It’s probably best to take SSWAMPZZ at face value. I mean, with a name like that you probably realize what you are about to get yourself into. You see these three Syracuse noisemakers unleash scuzzy noise-punk with reckless abandon and revel in the trashier side of life.
Out now on Miscreant Records, the band’s debut tape SLEEPER features five songs of unhinged lo-fi sleaze that share the vibes of well, a swamp. If you’re into music that gets down and dirty, then feel free to wade around with SSWAMPPZZ, just don’t blame me if you wind up with a few leeches on your legs.
Oh, and check out the band’s video for the single “Sleeper.” It features live footage of the band spliced with footage taken from (go figure) Harmony Korine’s Trash Humpers. Get filthy.
I pregamed my Record Store Day shopping with a little browsing in Sound Garden this afternoon. Purchased the aforementioned Death Cab vinyl and this here James Blake EP. I considered getting the LP, but I think I’ll save that for my trip on Saturday. Planning on getting the Paul Simon reissue and whatever vinyl they have for Dry The River, as well. Cannot wait!!
Also, I’m trying out the new Spotify installation on here for the first time. What are people’s thoughts on this?
New Dry The River comes out on Tuesday! I got a sneak peek of the album, and it’s totally on point. Peter Liddle’s voice is stunning, the instrumentation is beautiful, the lyrics are heart-wrenching. I’m planning on going to Sound Garden the day it’s out and buying the vinyl. Hoping it comes with some specials like the field recording of “Bible Belt” on a hidden track or something. A girl can dream.
Here’s another awesome song from the new Mouth’s Cradle album,Clark Kent. It’s such a great pop song — I’ve had it on repeat since I got up this morning.
In other news, the Mouth’s Cradle The Next Big Thingvinyl will arriving at my house in a little bit. No part of me can contain my excitement in any way. I’m literally camped out by the door, waiting for UPS to come make my life.
The new Mouth’s Cradle album is out and about, making ears melt everywhere. This track represents where these boys and Miscreant Records intersect the most — “If you do not like me, oh, then I don’t really care / Dancing to the rhythm with my hands up in the air.” Miscreants do miscreants.
Download Clark Kent here. Be prepared for the MC issue of the Miscreant, and the MC vinyl release coming soon on Miscreant Records.
Well, I’m interviewing Real Estate tonight before their show here on SU’s campus. Can’t wait to enjoy some chill tunes after talking to the boys. Maybe they’ll stick around for Titus tomorrow and then we can all party together and then we can all me best friends and go to the Indian Reservation together and buy cigarettes.
This is Karen and I’s song for SXSW. We’ve listened to it maybe 30 or 40 times. If we were to, say, see Mario perform here in Austin (does he still perform even?), that might be the best thing that has ever happened to anyone ever in the world.
